The Cheater's Lament

Was given out on September 2nd 2009 to players who had not used idling programs to obtain hats.

It is no longer available.

Ghastly Gibus

Originally awarded to thousands of users who visited a hidden website.

The hat is now obtainable by achieving a Domination on any player wearing a Ghastly Gibus.

Bill's Hat

Unlocked to players who pre-ordered "Left4Dead 2" on Steam or bought a PC copy from Gamestop.

It is no longer available.

Max's Severed Head

Unlocked to players who purchased "Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse" during the first week of it's release.

It is no longer available.

Mildly Disturbing Halloween Mask

Available during the annual Haunted Halloween Special Event. It is awarded to players who complete the "Candy Coroner" achievement. The hat itself can only be worn during the Haunted Halloween Special Event

Alien Swarm Parasite

Available to all players after downloading (for free!) the game Alien Swarm from the Steam Store, then acquiring the achievement Hat Trick (beat two levels in a campaign, easy stuff).

Primeval Warrior

Awarded to players during the 119th Update Celebration.

Given to those players who bought and played TF2 during the beta-testing phase.

Grizzled Veteran

Awarded to players during the 119th Update Celebration (April 29th 2010).

Given to those players who bought and played TF2 within 3 months of it's official release.

Soldier of Fortune

Awarded to players during the 119th Update Celebration (April 29th 2010).

Given to those players who bought and played TF2 between 3 to 12 months of it's official release.

Mercenary

Awarded to players during the 119th Update Celebration (April 29th 2010).

Given to those players who bought and played TF2 after a year of it's official release.

Earbuds

Unlocked to players who logged into TF2 on a Mac during the Mac release weekend (June 12th 2010).

It is no longer available.
